My second attempt at using Corel Painter, this time trying to make something closer to how things look in Dark Science. I really like how the paints mix; it much more natural in photoshop and I think it gives me richer and more interesting colors. Right now, however, I’m less confident with detail work compared to PS, though this could be because I haven’t found the right brush or am simply not used to program enough to easily tighten up details.

The one big issue I have with Painter is how sluggish the program is compared to Photoshop. I have all the performance settings tweaked, but it’s still significantly choppy when switching file windows and even brushes, to the point where it can get frustrating to perform simple tasks.

I’m not sure if I’ll be making the switch for my main comic rendering just yet, but it’s been an interesting experience!
