Seems like a stupid question, but how do you go about getting a a -good- outside opinion on your work? Everyone I know just goes on about how they cant draw a straight line and keep telling me about their cousin who draws nothing but bad anime fan arts.

Aside from going to an art school, the internet’s your best bet. If you post something and specifically ask for critiques, you’ll get responses from people who won’t care about hurting your feelings. This is obviously a double-edged sword, as many people who comment may be idiots, but that’s just how it goes. You have to use your personal judgement to figure out when to ignore feedback and when to take it into consideration.
