Indistinguishable From Magic

I'm intrigued by your recent answers. I've seen so many great artists complain that they aren't making enough money from their webcomics that I assumed it must be nearly impossible to do so, and decided to eventually submit my work to publishers instead of posting my work on a website. Isn't it only the best of the best who make a living off of their webcomics? Is it really a viable option for a career?

This isn’t a question that has one answer because being a web creator means being an entrepreneur. Being self-employed like that will never be a sure thing because of all the factors involved.

However, what you need to also know is that work in any publishing doesn’t guarantee you pay the bills either. The average income for a comic artist working for a major company is near the poverty line. It’s only when you’re a bigger name that you’ll take in more, similar to webcomics. There’s nothing guaranteed in this business.
